Challenge

A major retailer needed a digital gift card wallet that could absorb holiday-scale transaction spikes without compromising security or breaking existing commerce surfaces. Legacy gift card handling lacked modern fraud controls, balance consistency across channels was unreliable, and payment orchestration was difficult to extend for new denominations and promotions. The business required end-to-end flows spanning purchase, storage, gifting, and redemption, tightly integrated with the website and mobile app. Any outage or reconciliation gap during peak season would damage revenue and brand trust, so scalability, auditability, and rigorous quality gates were non-negotiable from the first release plan.

Solution

We delivered GiftWallet Pro as a TypeScript monorepo centered on Next.js client experiences and Java Spring Boot services for ledger-safe gift card operations. GraphQL with Apollo unified balance reads, purchase intents, and redemption status across web and mobile consumers. Secure payment flows enforced strong validation, fraud signals, and idempotent transaction handling so retries would not double-spend. Cypress coverage protected critical checkout and redemption paths, while infrastructure was tuned for elastic traffic during promotions. Integrations with the retailer's existing storefront and mobile applications kept gift cards visible in familiar shopping journeys rather than a disconnected microsite.
